09:23 pm - What am I, a doctor or a moonshuttle conductor? I just watched the TOS episode "The Corbomite Maneuver." Which I always get mixed up with "Balance of Terror," because they're both basically everybody sitting on the bridge going, "Well I don't know. What do you think?" while one bridge officer who will never be seen again goes batshit loco because of Teh Preshoars ZORMG. Which is not to say that I don't love both of those episodes. But the absolute best thing about "The Corbomite Maneuver"? (Aside from it being one of the early, early eps in the production where they haven't figured out yet that Spock doesn't yell and Uhura's uniform shouldn't be gold?) Has to be the fact that Kirk spends the first five minutes of the episode shirtless, including (and this is the part that has me sporfling like mad at my TV) walking around the ship without his shirt and CARRYING HIS BOOTS. That he keeps calling Spock and nattering at him bare chested is just icing on the giggle cake.

03:57 pm - On Rewatching TOS Eps for the First Time in Years There was a time (early high school, I'd say), when I could tell you the plot and run down a list of best lines from any TOS episode just from the title. I can't quite do that anymore, (though I've found that I still recognize them right quick after only a minute or two of the opening of the episode) and I'm enjoying rewatching the episodes for the first time in something like seven years. I just ordered the whole series on DVD and am watching in order. I'm about six eps into season one.
In watching "Where No Man Has Gone Before," I realized that the planet that Spock wants to strand Gary Mitchell on has the same name (Delta Vega) as the planet nu!Spock wants to strand nu!Kirk on in XI. It's clearly not the same planet (wildly different terrain and, I'm reasonably sure, in totally the wrong part of the galaxy). With all the planet names in all the universe, surely that's not a coincidence. I wonder how many other such tidbits I will find as I keep going.
It also nudges at a notion I've been pondering since I saw the movie: what happened to Gary Mitchell in reboot!universe? Or maybe, what will happen to him? (He's younger than Kirk in TOS, so since nu!Kirk has sort of leaped forward in his career, I suppose it's reasonable that a nu!Gary isn't even of academy age yet in the nu!timeline.) But I've been kind of focused on the negative things about the nu!timeline (for one, lots of dead cadets), but then it occurred to me that some people might end up living out full lives who snuffed it early in TOS.

09:36 pm - Fic Pointer Title: Contraband Fandom: Star Trek Reboot Pairing: McCoy/Kirk Rating: Adult. NSFW. Disclaimer: Characters don’t belong to me. No profit. Etc. Summary: McCoy picks up a kitten on an away mission. Kirk thinks this is adorable. McCoy shows him just how “adorable” he can be. Warnings: Spanking. A little bit D/s. Less than perfectly responsible topping behavior. Word Count: 2798
It’s breaking every sort of regulation there is, but Bones scanned the kitten with his tricorder before bringing it back on board and he’s sure she’s healthy.
